Corus chess: Anand takes sole lead
Wijk Aan Zee (The Netherlands), Jan 20: Viswanathan Anand assumed sole lead by outplaying Peter Leko in the fifth round and settled an account dating back to the previous edition of Corus Super Grandmasters chess tournament here.
The revenge also earned Anand four points and placed him in a good position to win a record fifth title at Corus, his favourite hunting ground. Last year, Leko beat Anand to gain a decisive advantage in the race for the title.
Meanwhile, his arch rival, Veselin Topalov was unable to overcome the tenacious defence of Shakhriyar Mamedyarov in an interesting fight and split the point.

Bulgarian Veselin Topalov became the third player in history to cross the magical 2800 ELO mark according to the new rating list enforced by Fide in the beginning of 2006.
