Nigeria To Host World Chess In August

Nigeria is to host the 9th edition of the World University International Chess Championship slated for August 27- September 3 at the Eko Hotel, Lagos.
Leaders of the Federation of International University Sports who visited Lagos during the week gave the assurance after a fact finding mission to the country.
Leader of the group, Professor Walter Decleir, said he was impressed that for the first time, an African country had accepted to host the championship at a very short notice.
He hoped more African countries would emulate Nigeria adding that the country was conducive to host it in spite of the wrong notion they gave them about the country in the international community.
"We were made to believe that the political situation was not conducive to host the championship, but this was not so," he explained.
